Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a guide on how to keep your beautiful sheepskin’s locks in perfect condition:

Soft Brush Cleaning

Sheepskin products are satisfyingly easy to care for. Being naturally dirt and stain resistant, they are very low maintenance and do not require regular cleaning. This is perfect for life’s fast pace! If you do start to notice your sheepskin getting a little dirty, first and foremost, all you need to do is give it a brush with a soft brush. A quick brush and a shake will restore your sheepskin to its full and fluffy appearance. By combing the sheepskin, air gets back into its natural fibres and brings it back to full lustre again.

Spot Cleaning

If your sheepskin product becomes lightly soiled over time, it can be spot cleaned using a damp, clean cloth.

Deeper Cleaning

If your beloved woollen product becomes soiled more heavily, you can either hand wash or machine wash the item at no more than 30 degrees Celsius on a gentle ‘wool’ cycle. We strongly recommend using a sheepskin detergent in your washing machine. This is essential so that the leather backing does not harden. The sheepskin detergent we recommend using is called ‘Woolskin Woolwash & Shampoo for Sheepskin, Lambskin, Shearling, Fleece & Woollens (500ml)’ and can be found on Amazon.

The detergents that are found in normal washing powders or pods, will attack the suede making the skin brittle. These harsher detergents can even discolour fleeces and possibly lead to disintegration.

A specialist wool detergent will keep the skin supple, yet it will very effectively gently clean the sheepskin – seeing off any dust mites, pet allergens or mould spores.

Drying

Sheepskin products should be dried in an airy place but must be put out of direct sunlight. If you wish to dry your sheepskin in a tumble dryer, this can be done on a low heat setting. It is essential however that you do not dry your item on a radiator or heater. Remember to shake, lightly brush and stretch out your sheepskin after it has dried.

To Note

It is worthy to note that sheepskin is a natural product and therefore some discolouration can occur during the washing process. This can equally occur if the product is left in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

When you first receive your sheepskin, you may notice a distinctive lanolin smell. This is due to natural oils that exist within sheepskin. This natural odour can be intensified after the products have spent long periods confined in packaging. This is completely normal and simply airing the item after unpacking should quickly reduce any residual natural fragrances.
